Perceived Aetiology of Addiction and Stigmatizing Attitudes of Mental Health Professionals towards Substance Use Disorders Patients

Purpose: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between aetiological beliefs and stigmatizing attitudes of mental health professionals towards substance use patients. It was hypothesized that bio-genetic causal attributions would have a positive with whereas psycho- social negative attitudes. Method: Correlational research design purposive sampling strategy used collect sample 100 (MHPs) both from government hospitals private addiction centres. Results: Results showed Bio- genetic had stereotypic attitudes, treatment pessimism non- permissiveness, however, no significant observed moralism intervention. Also, present pessimism, permissiveness Conclusion: highlights multifaceted nature stigma therefore importance combined information in anti- interventions empirically informed curriculum reduce professionals.
